Electrical CAD/BIM Technician – Level 2 (Full Time)

Haggard Electrical Contractors, an industry leader in Design, Engineering, Commercial, Industrial, Fire Alarm and Low voltage systems in Washington for 16 years, is seeking an Electrical CAD/BIM Drafter Technician with 2 to 4 years CAD/BIM (specifically AutoCAD 2018 or newer/Revit) experience to join our growing Engineering team.

Required Education and Qualifications

  • Proficiency in the following programs:

· Revit 2018 or newer

· Navisworks Manage

· Bluebeam

· Microsoft Office & Windows

  • At least 2 years drafting experience and proficiency in electrical and or fire alarm engineering-based CAD and BIM drafting. The latest knowledge of AutoCAD and Revit software is a required.

  • Associate degree or related two-year diploma in design/drafting with AutoCAD and Revit training from a recognized institution

  • Ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and work on multiple assignments concurrently

  • High level of accuracy/thoroughness and attention to detail

  • Must have strong communication skills

  • Positive Attitude with the ability to work as a team player

Preferred Qualifications:

Job Responsibilities

· Provide CAD & BIM drafting and design support for electrical engineers during the planning and design stages of electrical projects

· Development and maintenance of standard AutoCAD templates, details, and graphic standards

· Development and maintenance of standard Revit families, templates, details, and graphic standards

· Utilize AutoCAD and Revit to translate mark-ups/sketches into drawings consistent with company standards; check drawings for consistency with standards and plot final drawings; correctly label final work drawings; update contract drawings and specifications

· Maintain standard drawing files and templates per company standards

· Assist in field activities to gather project information as necessary

· Coordinate work with other disciplines including architecture, civil, structural, mechanical, plumbing and fire protection as needed

· Attend meetings and make higher level design decisions related to BIM coordination with other trades

· Provide training, mentorship and support to entry level CAD/BIM Technicians

Job Duties:

·Assist in preparation for each day pulling and loading tools, equipment and any miscellaneous materials required
·Assist with loading and unloading materials and tools on job sites
·Follow detailed instructions from journeyman or foreman and/or Project Manager to complete assigned tasks
·Install low voltage cabling in new construction and retrofit applications
·Terminate, test and label network, audio/video, and other low voltage cabling
·Assist journeyman or lead technician in installation and setup of low voltage systems
·Assist with system commissioning and testing
·Follow and maintain proper safety practices
·Complete required daily reporting of work performed before the end of the day
·Travel to various job sites as required

·Need to provide own hand tools

Required Qualifications:

  • Washington State 06 Electrical License

  • Minimum of five years installation and/or service experience

  • Valid driver’s license

  • Able to successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen and physical

  • Solid knowledge of applicable electrical codes

Preferred Qualifications:

  • One or more years as a lead or foreman

  • NICET II in Fire Alarm Systems

Job Responsibilities:

  • Read and understand construction drawings, blueprints, schematics, and scheduling, with the ability to apply this knowledge to structured cabling, installing, programming & repairing fire alarm, security, access, CCTV, and other low volt systems from various manufacturers

  • Be the principal point of contact for trainees/apprentices and journeymen, leading them through a project from start to finish

  • Complete installations and repairs per NFPA72/NFPA70 and other standards

  • Complete final reports, deficiency reports and possible bids via a computer and/or tablet

  • Interact in a respectful manner with contractors, inspectors and field personnel

  • Use company software to complete parts orders, time sheets & time off requests, and communicate with other company personnel

  • Coordinate and work closely with electricians while utilizing knowledge of low volt scope of work

  • Complete or oversee all safety tasks and inspections

  • Complete or oversee all pre-task reports, daily log reports, QA reports, etc.

  • Get quotes and create change orders, review all RFIs, ASIs, CCDs, etc. to submit to electrical Project Managers

  • Attend all sub-contractor and safety meetings as required

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Research equipment or component needs, sources, competitive prices, delivery times, or ongoing operational costs

  • Test electrical systems or continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, or fixtures, using testing devices, such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, or oscilloscopes, to ensure compatibility and safety of system

  • Communicate with other construction or extraction personnel to discuss project details

  • Perform business management duties, such as maintaining records or files, preparing reports, or ordering supplies or equipment

  • Other duties as assigned in order to meet the needs of the business

Guiding/Mentoring:
The Low-Volt Foreman will also be responsible for providing guidance and mentoring to the Low Volt Trainees/Apprentices in the following areas:

  • Assemble electrical systems or prototypes, using hand tools or measuring instruments

  • Assemble, test, or maintain circuitry or electronic components, according to engineering instructions, technical manuals, or knowledge of electronics, using hand or power tools

  • Calculate design specifications or cost, material, and resource estimates, and prepare project schedules and budgets

  • Compile and maintain records documenting engineering schematics, installed equipment, installation or operational problems, resources used, repairs, or corrective action performed

  • Install or maintain electrical control systems, industrial automation systems, or electrical equipment, including control circuits, variable speed drives, or programmable logic controllers

  • Maintain system logs or manuals to document testing or operation of equipment

  • Modify, maintain, or repair electronics equipment or systems to ensure proper functioning

  • Participate in training or continuing education activities to stay abreast of engineering or industry advances
